E30 windshield wipers...(please read:)

Don't these conversions *decrease* visibility? I've seen them on a
Mitsubishi and an Accord, and the two impressions I got were "looks like it
mainly clears the center of the windshield" and "the driver appears to be
looking *through* the windshield wiper to drive, which couldn't be safe or
fun".

(or is this more like an M-Benz windshield wiper?)
