I recently cleaned the carpet in my 325i.
I used some no-name carpet cleaner I bought
at an auto store, and have even used regular
carpet cleaner from a grocery store on other
cars (soap is soap is soap, I hope).
The two most important factors for me were
suction power (ok, no giggles) and water.
You really don't want to leave any shampoo
to dry in your carpet. My steps were (and
maybe this was a little fanatical) :
1 Removed the seats.
2 Vacuumed out the carpet.
3 Misted down the carpet with
a water bottle.
4 Sprayed the shampoo on the carpet.
5 Used a scrub brush to work cleaner
into carpet and to work out tougher
stains.
6 Used strong wet/dry vac (there's
the suction jokes again) to remove
most of the shampoo.
7 Used spray bottle again.
8 Finished vacuuming.
9 Put back in seats.
