I have a '87 which leaks. Mine is from obvious chassis distortion just 
behind the rear window (a moderate amount, obviously from loading 
something big into the trunk) and resulting weather strip missmatch.

I found that cleaning (light compound) the inside lip of the trunk lid - 
where the weather strip meets helped a lot. Also some appropriate 
cleaner for the weather stripping itself is probably a good idea (I have 
not yet done this).
