E36 Brake Pad Wear
My wife's 1993 325i has had the stock pads for about 20,000 miles I can see
about 3/4 pad remaining. She is by no means a lead foot on the gas or the
brake. She has the OEM pads and dust.
My 1992 325i is equipped with Axxis (Repco) Metal Masters. I installed them in
June of this year, have had several autocrosses and 2 very hard days at MIS
along with 10,000 or so mixed miles. I looked at the front pads a week ago and
I think I've used up about less than 1/4 pad.
Since it only costs about $60 - 70 for a new set of pads all around, changing
them once a year isn't too bad. If you are serious about your brake usage,
you will also include at least 2 brake fluild changes ($50 to $70 each for
someone else to do it) and replacement rotors ($40-$70 each for the fronts,
rears a little less). We're talking $300 - 500 a year to keep one of the finest
automotive braking systems in tip-top shape. About $1.50 a day would probably
do it..
