I use a receiver hitch from Bavarian Auto  on my 325is. I use it to tow a 
small trailer for my R1s  and and "track stuff" . I don't know  if it 
fits the M3 also but  the folk at BA are a great resourse. Call them and 
ask.   BTW I saw the post in a newer digest  begging you not to do this  
to your M3.  He wanted to know why you would  do  this to such a car--- 
My answer is because you bought it to use  for the exact reason that it 
is a fine car.
