I think the early road tests of the ti indicated that vented rotors were 
standard, but none of the cars that I know of were actually sold with 
them.  Probably a cost cutting measure.

No non-turbo '02s had them.  The early ('77, don't know about '78) 320i's 
did, but I don't believe any of the others did.  Also, this is just the 
US.  Europe has long had many more models on the lower end of the range 
(e.g. 316 and 316ti) that have much lower equipment.  BMW has plenty of 
lower end parts available to cut cost on US spec cars if need be.
