<MISC> Radar Detector Alert (tangentially BMW-related)

Hi there.

I thought this bit of information might be helpful to the latest
discussions on radar.

I have a 10-year-old Passport (the original), and I can't seem to part
with it. I've looked at the new units, and the only one I've found that is
worth buying (if you're a serious driver who wants to win at the Cat and
Mouse game that the police love to play) is the Valentine One. But I have
other priorities right now, so that'll have to wait.

The point is, on the drive up to Lime Rock Thursday night, I was leading a
small caravan of 3 BMWs. We were pretty tightly packed. The second guy
just bought a new Passport, and I fortunately received and reacted to a
couple warnings prior to a cop hiding with instant-on. He got *no*
warning. Why should my old Passport work so much better than a newer
one?? Sorry, I forget his model # - maybe he'll see this post and
respond... Could his mounting position (e36 on the dash) have been the
problem (I mount on the glass on my e28)?

You know, the thing that pisses me off about the Arbitrary Law Enforcement
is that they cowardly hide in the bushes and are unable to take a proper
"traffic history" (a radar-defense term) to determine whether your speed
is truly dangerous based on the conditions. But, as one person said, get
elected and change the laws if you don't like them. If I had a politician
in my pocket, I'd change the law to require cops to be mobile in order to
issue citations.

Thank you for your continued support. 8^)

Regards,
 .steve.
p.s. I have a great deal of respect for police officers that risk their
lives every day to protect us. The putzes on traffic enforcement are
seriously misguided, however...
