Intake manifold gasket? You might check for a leak at the junction of the
head and exhaust manifold. These can sometimes sound like a "clicking" 
rather than a "popping". Does it make noise only while accellerating?
Also could be a rod bearing (:-( or main bearing ((:-(( .
