Chris,
I don't agree with you, and I can't say I like your style. If you have
such a problem with another digester's posting, replies like yours should
be private. Sure, some cops are jerks, but there are jerks all over. I
suspect that there might even be a few on this digest. ;^)
Scenario: A car is speeding. A cop does his job (he doesn't make the laws)
and gives the driver a ticket. Does doing one's job make him/her an
a**hole. If it does, then I might be one for 40 hours each week. If you
have a job, then you might be one too. Even if you don't work, ...
No, I'm not a cop. I can only imagine what their day must be like, dealing
with everyone who thinks they don't deserve to pay for breaking the law.
Yes, I've been ticketed for speeding. I paid the fine and didn't try to
claim I was innocent.
Does the method of catching a speeder (e.g., hiding in bushes) change the
fact that a driver was speeding? I grant you that local governments have
ticket quotas to raise revenue, and that cops are sneaky in their attempts
at catching speeders, but each driver is responsible for the speed they go.
They should also be willing to pay the consequences (and the ticket) if
they knowingly drive faster that posted limits.
As for European drivers who want to drive faster: what makes you above the
speed limit lawss? Can I go to your country and drive like I do back home?
I've tried it - the Europeans didn't appreciate it at all. No sense of
humor, I guess. While you're here, you must face the fact that everyone
around you drives under our laws, so you must also.
Why do I feel like I'm wasting my time? Come on folks, let's get some good
peanut butter/zymol/bon ami/m-badge threads going.
