Hi all!
Once I sorted out what was wrong with my trunk actuator (internal
lock/unlock switches dead), I installed the AutoLoc Long Range Keyless Entry
Unit and their Ignition sense Switch. I really like both of them! The keyless
unit is a code hopping unit which is probably the most secure( actually computes
the next code sequence based on the last one) and it really is long range, 200
ft in one test. The ignition sense switch locks the doors when it senses 12v
from a key switched source, and unlocks when you turn the car off. Yeah I know
how lazy can this guy be? Pretty lazy! But the doors are always locked upon
startup and always unlocked when you shut down.
I installed both units on the rear carpeted trim piece in the trunk, the
carpeted battery trim piece hides all evidence of the attachment hardware I
used. I tapped into the fuel pump harness under the rear seat for a source of
switched 12v and ran the wire into the trunk on the passenger side. I had to
get in the trunk which explains why my back is so screwed up today. Middle age,
not a pretty picture!
I did need mounting hardware for both boxes and the antenna, i used some
1/8" x 1/2" machine bolts and nuts and bolted both directly to the carpet. The
receiver antenna is supposed to be mounted horizontally or vertically away from
other wiring and away from metal, IN A TRUNK??? Well I drilled three sets of
two 1/8" holes in the carpet and tie-wrapped the antenna horizontally on the
cardboard side of the carpeted trim piece just above where I mounted the keyless
box and the ignition sw. All of this was mounted behind the passenger rear
taillight assembly. The nap of the carpet hides the tie wraps completely, use
the smallest you can find and clear ones as well.
Cost wise, the electronics where $142 and the extra molex connectors ( I
do not like these but they are cheap and available at RS. I also solder the
wires to the pins rather than just crimp them on) I put in to make a neater
install where about another $10. Time: most of my Sat, but a large portion of
the time I spent was developing and eliminating possible location solutions and
locating a source of switched 12v, I really need the ETM! If anyone wants more
info on the installation any means of contact is fine. 814.422.8210 home/office
Pennsylvania, but please before 11:00 Pm my time.
As per other posts for those that suspect my motives, I have no
financial interests in the company that sells these things.
Regards,
Joe Fahy
