RE:	Copy of: GM alternator to 2002

Phill, It is a small case GM,you can get them up to the 80 amp range just about
anywhere. To put one on,take off your old one, compare the two. The old bosch
one has the narrow mount tab about one third of the way around from the main
mount. The GM has it almost on the other side....That is the main diff. Now
the way I always do it is to bolt the alt. in like the old one ,you may have to
widen the mount on the car with a hand file or power whatever. Do the filing on
the end that allows the pulleys to line up if needed. Take the tension arm and
either extend it up to meet the new mount point ,or get some stock and have made
or make one yourself, make sure and oval the end to allow for adjustment of the
belt. After the mechanical stuff looks right,ie. all lined up belt
good.....then on to the electrical part. The Bat. + goes to bolt post just like
before. Take the regulator out and breath deep, let out a low grunt, and throw
that baby out, never having to deal with a old mech. regulator again. Now don't
walk away yet,you have one more thing to do. The plug that went into the reg.
has a Blue wire , a black, and a Brown wire ,the only one you need is the blue
one. The blue needs to go to the field terminal on the GM (D+, But call a gm
dealer to make sure I did not zone on this). To do this , cut the plug , connect
the two blue leads together, and take the blue lead off the old alt. plug and
use this to go to the GM. That is it , now enjoy 14 plus volts ,and being able
to get parts for them anywhere. Your regulator is built into the alt. More,
give me a call 206-774-1958.....Dan W.
