In a message dated 96-08-14 11:26:42 EDT, you write:
<< Hello,
I'm not trying to be rude, but a question comes to mind when reading
about your 328is in the digest. Why didn't you just buy an M3, you
have obviously spent as much by now (body kit and wheels). Just
thought I would ask, because I went throught the same evaluation
process before buying mine ('96 M3).

1st reason: Insurance! -- more than double the cost of the 328is [currently
$1,275/yr] in my region --- I got quoted over $215/mo! for the M3...and that
was for a less desirable '95 model -- the '96 wasn't near its shipping date
yet...
2nd reason: Availability -- I bought the 328is on January 5th, many months
ago
3rd reason: Cost -- A similarly equiped M3 would have cost a bundle more than
the 34k steal I got, also, my entire M-Technic body treatment was "paid for"
- -- beleive it or not -- by the insurance company of a little old lady that
backed into my rear bumper at the super market in May [yes its the whole body
package, don't ask :)], and the Moda wheels and BMP gauges were carried over
from my '94 325is.
So the bottom line is I'd love to have an M3, but can't really afford one.
Besides, I'm not sure I'd be as happy with a car that's just too damn perfect
already...! ;)
I'll tell you what, when the E46 1999 M3 EVO ships, I'll be ready to buy!
