Greetings.
I'm getting sub-optimal radio reception with the stock radio in a
'90 E34 535i. The sibilants in vocals or cymbals are particularly harsh.
It seems to be more pronounced with classical music than during speech or
rock music. The stations are strong (both roaming in the car and on my
home stereo). They don't fade in or out. Playing tapes in the cassette
unit does not exhibit the same behavior. I'm thinking it's a problem with
the antenna, either the antenna itself or the connections to the head unit.
The antenna appears to be a couple of vertical lines in the rear window,
perpendicular to the defogger lines.
Does anyone else have this problem?
Where are these connections?
What else might it be?
Is there a "mono" switch on the radio?
I don't know what kind of radio it is (besides being labeled "BMW"); I
didn't get a manual for the radio (I bought the car used).
Until next time...
Todd
