In a message dated 96-08-09 22:17:37 EDT, you write:
I agree whole heartedly with Chris Sawwa, the 328 auto is a different car,
not nearly as responsive, and is nearly a full second slower....an unusual
dicotomy in this day and age of high tech auto tranny's. If your wife can
deal with it, and you don't mind slightly lower trade-in value, I'd steer way
clear of the 1996 328 auto tranny.
In '96, BMW improved upon an already excellent setup by rewarding 328 buyers
with the "genuine article" -- the coveted M3 gearbox. And coming from a past
owner of a 1994 5spd 325is, I can say the 328's 5spd is even more crisp, and
the ratios have been dialed in perfectly -- Road and Track rated the current
5spd box a "perfect 10".
Go with the 5 speed.
