quick bmw question

I have a seven series (1990 735i) and it is missing the interior temp 
sensor.

Do you happen to know:
a) Where the sensor is spposed to be?
& / or
b) What is it, how can I get one? Do 3rd party units work?  Is it a 
thermistor or something else?
