E30 Glovebox stuck strange coolant loss

Hello

Whilst on holiday in Ireland two problems arose. My 318i from 1985 was too
low for the Irish country roads. The U-bolts and sleeve holding the back
exhaust were ground off by scraping on the road when the car bottomed out. I
had to tie the exhaust up to the back frame with metal coat hangers in order
to gain ground clearance. I shall change the back springs now back to
standard before the next trip to Ireland.

Without warning the glovebox refuses to open. Is there a good way to fix this
without damaging the surrounding interior. I have a faint memory that this
prehaps has been discussed before. I can pull up on the catch but nothing
happens. Any help appreciated.

One more strange thing. I have been losing a lot of radiator coolant these
past few months, but I had no idea where it was going. There were no signs of
water when I recently changed the oil, and nothing wet on the garage floor.
This was with town driving and prehaps fifteen or so minutes on the motorway.

Now, when driving through Denmark and down through Germany and across England
on the way to and from Ireland at speeds of 150-160 km for sustained periods
3 or more hours the car lost no water at all. I got to Ireland after 2010 km
and the radiator was full. In Ireland staying at one village and driving at
town speeds I was having to top the radiator up again after a few days. I
don't understand it. Anyone have any ideas?
