Because of an unusual situation I have been put in by BMW NA European
Delivery (to put things diplomatically), I may find myself in the
U.S. owning two radios: one German and one American. As I plan to
stay in Germany for another year, I am thinking of also buying a
German BMW CD changer. Interestingly enough, my local dealer says
both are compatible with the wiring in my U.S. market '96 318is.
The CD changer, however, may not work with the U.S. radio. Thus, I
might need to re-install the European radio back in the U.S. I know
this will nix my chances of receiving Medium Wave AM, which doesn't
really bother me. The German warranty on both units will have also
expired, so that's no problem either. I wonder, however, if there are
U.S. warranty or repair issues I should consider. The European
components would get a year's worth of testing, even so, would it be
more prudent to wait and buy a CD changer in the U.S.? Will BMW NA
get all bent out of shape over audio components from their parent
company?
Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated! Send me
e-mail and I will summarize.
