By the time the airbags have deployed and interfered with your line of sight,
chances are you are no longer going anywhere! They are designed to deploy in
case of severe frontal collisions: normally, by the time they have fired,
the car is either stopped or in no condition to steer. Either way, you are
probably better off than if you did not have them; and since after deployment
they deflate almost as quickly as they inflated, they do not get in your way
when getting out of the car.
As a side note, I think it would be difficult to stop in a light rain while
trying to pump the break oh so lightly so that you can continue to steer...
