While it may be true that Japanese cars are among the best in the world, it is
also true that there are reasons many people on this list take issue with
them being compared to Bimmers:
Japanese cars are seen as reliable and well built, however the ingenuity,
originality of design, performance standards, etc. are invariably begun
elswhere in the automotive world--most likely Germany (BMW, Mercedes) or
Italy (Ferrari).
The Japanese carmakers in turn are very good at adopting many of these standards
and applying them to their own cars--but in the process it leaves a bit to
be desired.
I do not believe the true automotive geniuses at work in Germany or Italy have
anything to fear. Just look at the new 5-er. The 540i at around $50K just
may be the best combination of luxury/performance ever built at any price
period (and I used to
say that about the previous edition. Nuff said
