I have only just joined the list but have been reading some of the FAQs for a
while. I have an E30 / M40 318i '91 which I maintain myself. It isone of the
easiest cars to work on that I have ever owned. My particular interest is in
the electronics, a field that few if any in South Africa seem to know
anything about and for which there is a substantial requirement. For
instance, my local agent, who is very clued up in most respects, has asked me
if we (Olivetti for whom I work) can fix their service indicator setting
tool. I have just recently repaired the interior heater control unit
from my car which had expired, instead of a bill of about $300 it cost a few
cents for a 12v Zener diode which had overheated.
I would like to correspond with anyone who has any knowledge of the
electronics of these cars - this is a purely private interest and I have no
commercial motives at all. Dave Edmondson.
