digital odometer question...

Hey all,

I have a question concerning the recent posts about digital odometers and 
tampering.  I'm not too clear about how the odometer gets reset?
	1.  does the odometer reset to 0 when disconnected?
	2.  if so (question 1), what happens when you disconnect the battery?

These could be a serious problem if considering the purchase of a late 
model BMW with digital odometer!!!
