Gary,
I have a '90 325iC that I got used in 1992 (I am the second owner).
I have used Meguiar's #9 (?) Plastic Cleaner ever since and have had
no problems with cloudiness. Alas, you already have the cloudy
strips. The cleaner may still work to some extent.
As far as the Bently manual, I have never used a hair dryer, but
have noticed that the hot summer sun can effect the rear window. As
you may notice after lowering and raising the top, the rear window
sometimes has a few creases (I always use a towel between the window
as I fold it into the rear hoop). In the hot summer, the heat will
make the creases disappear!
I would try the Cleaner first -- let it dry a little before buffing
it off. You may be amazed!
