2002 Crankshaft - Nitride treated?

In talking to a machine shop about rebuilding my engine, I was
told that the '02 cranks may be nitride hardened, and that if the
shop doing the polishing or regrinding of the crank does not 
re-nitride treat the crank then bad things would happen. I'm
going to check with the shop doing the work, but I am curious if
anyone knows whether or not the 2002 crank is nitride hardened.
Also, do machine shops know this and act accordingly, or is it 
good to emphasize that re-nitriding in the event of grinding
must be done?

Also, it was recommended that the crank and rods be magnafluxed
to check for cracks. What does this process entail, and how likely
is it that a crank will be cracked after 240k miles, but with no 
major problems like seized bearings etc.?  The shop doing the 
rebuild feels that the small ends of the rods are fine, but I am
inclined to rebush and balance them just to be safe. Comments?

Finally, I am going to replace the ring gear on my flywheel, and 
have the flywheel surfaced. I've already removed the old ring gear,
and am told that I can heat the ring gear in the oven and cool the
flywheel in the freezer in order to install the ring. It sounds
straightforward, are there any tricks that I should be aware of?
