My experience with guibos on both the 2002 and the 320i are that you
will have significant cracks THAT YOU CAN NOT SEE WITHOUT REMOVAL
after several years. (Sorry about the shouting). If you can see the
cracks then it is almost certainly time to replace it. Use new nuts
and bolts. And don't turn the bolts to tighten things up, just the
nuts (else you distort the coupling).
Another possible problem:
The 320i developed a shudder at about 20 mph that grew worse with time.
The nut that held the two drive shaft sections together had loosened
and the splines could move in and out a bit. After not diagnosing the
problem for a year the splines were pretty trashed. Junkyard driveshaft
+ guibo + hanger bearing ($50 + $35 + $35). Humongous improvement.
