guys, guys, guys. let me explain.
majordomo will automatically handle all requests within its power.
majordomo is explicitly forbidden from allowing a person with one address,
say [email protected], from subscribing/unsubscribing a person with a different
address, say [email protected]. such requests are automagically forwarded to
me, the list admin, for approval. if i'm here, i take care of them as
is reasonable, which often means a wait until monday if the request comes
on the weekend, or until i get back from vacation, which is what just
happened.
Martin's request came from an email address other than the one which
he was trying to unsubscribe; it was forwarded to me, and i took care
of it a few minutes ago.
this is why it often makes sense to just use the word subscribe in your
request; this way the address automagically corresponds to the one that
you are using. however, for some sites this is not the correct thing
to do; these sites generally have a single mail gateway with the standard
email addresses for users, and unfortunately often the return addresses
that are in the headers do not match the "standard email addresses". for
these cases, i have to handle the requests manually.
it's not a perfect world. oh well.
sigh,
