[bmw] RE: bmw-digest V10 #206
The 88 and 89 cars are consider primo because of changes in engine
management and the fact that they had reduced bumpers with color matched
trim. However, they had very few manual tranny cars during that run.
The 87's are fine cars and are just about as desirable. Watch out for
rust on the sheet metal. It common and expensive to repair. The auto
trannies are suspect around 100-150K miles as they tend to wear out
around that point. The M30 motors are brick houses as long as they are
reasonably well cared for. The bottom ends are tough as nails. Find a
car with a documented history and you should be fine.
The Big Coupe Group is a good source of info and these guys know
everything there is to know about the E12 and E24 coupes.

Subject: [bmw] Good and bad years for 6 Series?
Pardon my ignorance, but I'm a soon-to-be partial convert from the Audi
quattro lifestyle.
To not bore the list, can anyone please point me to resources regarding
good and bad years for the 6 Series, and particular things to be aware
of?
I've got an '87 in my sights, but need to find a competent place for a
pre-purchase inspection, first.
