[bmw] Missing e34
Hi,
I have a problem with my e34 that I would appreciate thoughts on.
The other day driving it started to miss and splutter. I could take my foot
off the gas and it would at least move but performance was terrible. This
progressively got worse until on the way the garage it wouldn't (couldn't)
make it up a hill. It definitely feels like a fuel problem or similar. I have
since replaced the oxygen sensor and it still misses, though not as bad.
Now, one week prior to this happening my BMW wouldn't start - it didn't
wouldn't even turn over. The local mechanic (non-BMW specialist) said not
enough charge was going through the ignition. He then 'shorted' two terminals
on the starter motor and then turned it over with the key (as normal) and it
started fine. Unfortunately just down the road I turned the car off and it
again wouldn't start. I rang him and he explained what to do to 'short' the
two terminals. I think initially however I shorted the wrong two terminals on
the starter motor but then did the correct one's and it started fine. Could
this have caused the problem at all?
One final question - does a 1990 e34 with an e30 engine have two fuel pumps
(one under the car and one in the fuel tank) or just the one in the fuel
tank?
Appreciate any thoughts....
Thanks,
Tim
