Jim,

taking the car to a *BMW dealership* will get you the radio code (for a fee
of course :-) - then make sure you save it!

I had the same problem buying a 98 m3 used from an non-bmw dealership

I recently had to replace the battery in my 98 m3, and soon found that the
radio code was not given to me at purchase. I know the prior ownership
history, however they do not have it recorded. I also know the original
dealership but they are of no help, any suggestions would be appreciated.
