[bmw] FS: 1991 318i sedan
I'm selling my black '91 318i. It's a good car in good condition, but it
stumbles a little bit. I've replaced the plugs, icv, o2 sensor , and
some other stuff and I can't track down the cause--dealer computer says
it's fine, but I know better. Anyhow, it's in Idaho Falls, Idaho. I'm
moving to LA in 2 weeks and might consider delivering it there or
anywhere along the way (Salt Lake, Las Vegas. 174k miles. $2200.

re: WANTED: Euro E12 525 (1979-1981) parts:
You may be disappointed with the results of the swap you seek to
make.
I used to do the opposite on the L Jet cars. That is to disconnect the
electronic ignition setup, and replace it with a points distributor from
a Bavaria.
So keep your points distributor. Then in that distributor, use a
Mallory magnetic ignition pickup and power pack kit.
Why?
The older points distributor has a generally hotter advance curve than
the later electronic distributor. Simple installation. The Mallory
inductive pickup is inexpensive, reliable, and fires the coil hotter
than the factory ignition unit. For best results also use a Mallory
Voltmaster coil. What a wallop.
Plus NGK brand wires listed for '75-8 Datsun 280Z, and NGK BP6ET (or Q)
spark plugs. These are the standard plugs listed for Mazda RX7 of that
vintage. They are a triple or quad electrode version of the standard
BP6ES plug.
_Imho you will be pleased with the results.

Has anyone on the list replaced this before?
Well, not personally, so this may not be helpful, but I just had all
window
drip rails AND lower rubber moldings replaced by my body shop for $277
complete, so this must not be really difficult.

Subject: [bmw] 1996 328is heater fan speed problems
After being BMW-less for almost a year, I just bought a 1996
328is. Car is silver on grey with 99K. All checked out
well on the car except the fan speed control for the
heating/ventilation system. When selecting the first four
speeds (pair of bars on the display) the fan speed
increases. After that point there is no change. It has
gone to max fan speed after about 15 minutes of driving.
Also when selecting high just after starting the car the fan
will go to high for about 2 seconds and then go back to a
medium fan speed.
Reviewing the electrical schematic for the car in the
Bentley manual shows (page ELE-133) a "Final Stage Unit"
getting a signal from the front panel.\
So the question of the day is... Is it the Automatic
Climate Control Unit - front panel bad or is it the "Final
Stage Unit?" How deep will I have to go into my pocket book
for this fix. Texas is hot and full airflow is a must.
Micro filter has been changed.
Any experiences, suggestion and/or comments would be
appreciated.

Subject: [bmw] 95 530iA Oil Leak
I changed oil today, and notice oil has been dripping, it appears to be
coming from the area near the oil canister housing? There was no leak at
the
cap, and I cannot see any leaking area on the canister itself. Is this a
common issue on the 530iA M60 engine?
Thanks,
Gary

Subject: [bmw] Replacing E34 Windshield
What's the basic procedure for replacing the windshield on a 1994 540iA?
The molding around the windshield already blew off when I and a big
truck
passed each other at high speed. My windshield has several cracks so I
am
ready to replace it anyway. With the molding off I noticed a total of
16
two inch plastic clips along the top and sides of the windshield.
What's their function?
Do I have to replace those with the windshield (and perhaps they may
also
break)?
Anything else that I need to purchase to do this job (in addition to the
glass)?
It seems like I could push (from the inside) the existing windshield off
.
Is this the case?
TIA,
tsp

I'm interested in upgrading to the newer lights since mine are
completely sand blasted from these New England winters. I have the
daytime running lights (DRL) would these still work with the newer
lights?
Thanks,
