PLEASE! Do not imagine that there is an M after 535i. There is not.
There never has been, there never will be. If you or a previous owner
fealt the car was fast and handled well, that is what makes it 535i, M it is
not.
Oh yeah, 1 sec of cranking is pretty typical of all of the m30 3.5l cars I
have owned with the exception of L-Jet or carbed cars. I can only assume
this is a motronic program with a logical purpose: pre-lubrication. Smart.
Fuel pumps are often noisy. I've personally never found a correlation
between loud and failiure. Clicking, valves are often suspected when fuel
injectors are the more common clickers. Your 1st valve adjustment will take
a backyard mechanic 2-3 hours to complete. <1hour by the 3rd or 4th time.
I would suggest you purchase the tool from Bavarian Autosport (and others)
that preloads the appropriate tension. Buy a Haynes or Bentley or even
chilton manual if you haven't already.
