PLEASE!   Do not imagine that there is an M after 535i.   There is not.
There never has been, there never will be.   If you or a previous owner
fealt the car was fast and handled well, that is what makes it 535i, M it is
not.

Oh yeah, 1 sec of cranking is pretty typical of all of the m30 3.5l cars I
have owned with the exception of L-Jet or carbed cars.   I can only assume
this is a motronic program with a logical purpose: pre-lubrication.   Smart.

Fuel pumps are often noisy.   I've personally never found a correlation
between loud and failiure.  Clicking, valves are often suspected when fuel
injectors are the more common clickers.  Your 1st valve adjustment will take
a backyard mechanic 2-3 hours to complete.   <1hour by the 3rd or 4th time.
I would suggest you purchase the tool from Bavarian Autosport (and others)
that preloads the appropriate tension.  Buy a Haynes or Bentley or even
chilton manual if you haven't already.
