The E28 alternator is Bosch, I believe. BMW does not list the bearings in 
their parts catalogue but Mercedes does. Also, check around your independent 
repair shops and they should point you to an auto electric shop that carries the 
bearings.
Replacement is easy as they will come out with a little encouragement. Use 
the outside race to hit on gently to set the new ones. Use a socket for this.
The brushes are usually good but replacements are available. Also, easy to 
install.
If any of this is confusing, just take it to a foreign auto electrical shop.
