[alfa] 105/115 oil pressure gauge Veglia v. Jaeger



Hi Group:

I've got a '74 Spider, and I've just installed a complete set of gauges from a 1600 Duetto ('67?). I prefer the Duetto gauges because they have the Italian units and legends, and as a bonus, the set I found is in beautiful condition.

Everything works and looks great, except the Veglia oil pressure gauge. I'm guessing the Veglia gauge is OK, but only because it has resistance (~51.8 ohms), rather than an open circuit or dead short. It doesn't react even slightly to the oil pressure sender when the engine is running. The original Jaeger gauge has a resistance of ~134.8 ohms across its terminals, and works fine.

So, the questions are; is there a way to test the gauge, and/or is a different sender required? Or, if the gauge is bad, who can repair a Veglia?

I just spoke to Steven at Centerline, and he seems to think the later-style ('71>)sender should be compatible with the older gauge, but I was a bit confused by his logic in reaching that conclusion. Anyone done this and know for certain? Or, anyone have a 1600 Duetto and tried using the later sender with a Veglia pressure gauge? I'd hate to drive the '74 without a pressure gauge, even though I haven't ever seen the gauge in my '87 Spider, thanks to the single pod dash design which places the pressure gauge squarely behind the top of the steering wheel.
