[alfa] transaxle rattle

Meanwhile, a curious noise that's been there a while, but that I haven't yet
identified.  
 
My 116 has a rattle coming from the transaxle in certain specific conditions.
Rattle sounds like something slightly out of balance.  At low idle speed
(below 1000 rpm, has gone by about 1050 rpm), in neutral, with the clutch
engaged.  Goes away with the clutch disengaged neutral or in gear -- so long
as the clutch is disengaged, engine and driveshaft idle perfectly smoothly.
It doesn't occur with the clutch engaged, in gear, rolling along at 900 rpm,
either. 
 
I'm not a big gearbox guy, so I'm not really sure where to start on this.
Any suggestions?  
It's one of the few remaining niggle with the car.
