Here's a Brisbane, Australia datapoint.
The mechancial tensioner for 12V V6s is almost completely unknown over here.
Instead, you get a hydraulic tension seal kit that comes in a nice orange
box. Rebuild the tensioner everytime you change the belt and you'll never
have a drama. Let the engine roll backwards, forwards, whatever - doesn't
matter.
