I believe on the 78 spider there is a hole in the trunk floor at the back
about 10mm in diameter. Take a long screw driver and you can trip the latch
from under the car, the screw driver needs to be long enough to reach from the
trunk floor to the latch. Then you push the catch arm towards the drivers side
of the car.
