Is a good electric impact wrench an oxy-moron? After recently replacing the
front struts, I would love to have an impact wrench at home. The classic
air-driven units are pricey for home use and I wonder if the electric units
are worth the money.
In my experience air tools are surprisingly cheap. I think my impact
wrench was <$40. Sure it's no Ingersoll-Rand, but I've been using it
for a few years with no problems. Of course air-compressors can be
pretty expensive. If you can live with the fact that you can't use a
die grinder, air sanders, or sand blasting guns, then you can probably
live with a pretty small pretty cheap compressor. Just don't get a
direct-drive "oilless" compressor. They are _LOUD_ and they will wear
out (if they don't wear you out first) quickly.
