Re: [alfa] Sport Sedan Window Rubber - Help!

John, I'll explain how I've removed/replaced the gasketed 'screen from a
116GTV. I actually removed the 'screen from a '79 116GTV and refitted it to
a '76 116GT (originally a glue-in 'screen).

Assumptions:
1. Dash is removed.
2. Rubber is serviceable/pliable.

First Step: DON'T REMOVE THE STAINLESS CENTRE TRIM from the 'screen rubber.
OK, now I'm past that point .......

I bought a bag of 500 icy-pole sticks from a craft shop. I have no idea
what they are called in the Northern Hemisphere, but I still have about 400.

From inside the car I carefully went randomly around the rubber, pulling it
back and firmly inserting the sticks between the rubber and the body flange.
At first the sticks spring back against the headlining/body but once you
insert enough of them they keep the rubber pulled back so you can see the
flange.

When you feel that the rubber is sufficiently pulled back to allow the
'screen/rubber to be pushed out complete, go around again and fit another 20
sticks or so !

Have someone outside ready to steady/catch the 'screen, and then GENTLY push
it out of the hole. Mine popped out on it's own, but beware that any
untoward pressure or twisting will crack a laminated shield.

If you fit a new glass, first fit the gasket to it with the stainless trim
in situ. Pulling this metal trim will invariable kink it, and it will be
that way forever.

Fit the 'screen/rubber assembly using the 'nylon rope trick' which I'll
leave to others to explain.
