I didn't read the original post about your radio reception problems or the 
replies you may already have received, but before you send the radio in for 
repair, you should check that the antenna is properly grounded. The base of the 
antenna needs to have good electrical connection with the sheetmetal on the 
inside of the fender. Also, the connector on the radio side could have partly slid 
out.

Been there, done that. I was really hoping there was a problem with the 
antenna, ground, or cable, but no such luck.
