[alfa] Need help conning potential Alfa buyers on eBay
Got your attention? Grab a beer and help me pull this off. Does get a
bit technical though.
Sos heres the deal. Have a '69 Spider which has been for sale on my
website for eons. Apparently my answers to "how much will it cost to
restore" have been the stumbling block.
Have decided to complete the bodywork, paint to a darn good quality,
rebuild the complicated brake system, pretty up some (perhaps not quite
all) of the chrome and stainless, and install a pretty darn good running
engine and transmission. (Note, I did not say I was going to install a
new top, reupholster the interior, nor the running gear would be
original).
Today, fellow con artists, we're concerned with the 'running gear'.
She came into my possession not remotely in running condition
(apparently not so for around 17 years) and had some fairly serious
bodywork required. Has an early Series II 2 liter engine which only
makes .75 of a revolution, absolute max, either direction, no fuel
system - Spica gone but original 1750 inlet manifold, IAP or Ricambi
Weber conversion plastic 'plates', no Webers, no air cleaner.
Have a darn good running 2 liter and tranny. Along with the original
inlet manifold (for the uninitiated, they don't have the aluminum bump
at the top of the manifold with five hoses going to it), a swap meet
find 'proper' air cleaner (sans 1750 plate, but have one from another
air cleaner) figure I might pull off the 2,000 where a 1750 belongs.
Yeah, I know, the Series I Spica is different and it shouldn't have a
spin on oil filter, but who will ever look that close?
Engine ('new' one): I want to also pretty up the somewhat shabby fuel
injection nozzles. Anyone ever dump them into a vat of zinc (plating)
with no adverse problems? Probably should remove the long black end
things? Not part of our scam, but once again I'll ask, "Why are the
nozzles numbered from one to four?"
Does there exist on any place in the universe where information exists
as to how to adjust the orifices to the inlet manifold on the 1750's air
cleaner? Don't give me that, "It'll require a two gizallion dollar
anusinspectorgraph probe to ascertain the optimum air flow through your
particular orifices." Everyone knows anusinspectorgraph's weren't
invented until the late 70's - and weren't remotely reliable.
Of course I'd tell the new owner about the slight modification - "Bye,
bye, have a good trip home and bye the bye, it's a 2 liter)."
Speaking of which, does anyone out there (in the universe) have a crank
pulley with the
Spica notches and only one (as opposed to two or three) belt pulley for
sale?

Just Goggled myself and found she / he jots down a lot of this Digest
stuff. I'm sure we can keep this 'in the family'...can't we?
