Last weekend with some help I managed to transplant my Verde's motor
into my new Verde. I also decided to relocate the battery to the
trunk. I spent all night Thursday finishing up various tasks, with the
hope of being able to drive to work, instead of riding my motorcycle in
a hurricane.
At midnight I was finally ready to turn the key. *cross fingers* *turn
key*... Nothing. I gave up and went to bed. This morning I took a
survey of what worked and what didn't. Lights, brake lights, horn,
fuel pump, windshield wipers: good. Turn signals, starter, disco ARC
unit: bad.
I thought I goofed when I did the battery wiring. I rechecked, and
rechecked. With nothing better to do, I decided to clean all the
grounds with some sand paper, contact cleaner, and dielectric grease.
That fixed everything but the starter. I thought it would be too easy
if all I had to do was clean the connectors at the firewall, but I gave
it a try... certainly more fun than pulling the headers to get to the
starter. Success! With a cough it came to life. Hoorary!
Just a few more things to sort out, and I'll be on the road. Just in
time too, as I'm out of beer (and bread and milk...)
