[alfa] Shifter wear and keyrings
By resting one's hand on the shift lever you risk pressing the shifter fork
against the shifter ring causing unnecessary wear on a component that is
commonly engaged only for short time periods.
As for key rings damaging ignition locks this is not an old wives (or
mechanics) tale as far as Alfa's are concerned. The local Alfa dealer here
would deliver a car without filing the key ring eye out of the ignition
keys so you could not hang anything from it.
Key rings I've never understood. Why risk losing all of your keys
simultaneously? Carry your keys separately in the same pocket then it's not
an issue. Why have more than one key per item? All locks on an item should
be keyed alike. Still, I have to re train my wife and daughters every now
and again, still working on the first ignition lock in my 164. The second
on my 86 SAAB 9000T, even with nothing hanging off the ignition key.
250,000 km can wear out an ignition lock.
Cheers
Michael
