    Besides the threaded rod method, I have drilled a flat piece of bar stock
to pick up the holes for the threaded rod.  This makes it a lot easier to
screw or unscrew the nuts.
    If you put your jack under the bar stock, you can tell when the spring is
relaxed enough to take the nuts off by hand when removing it or when
installing, you can push it up quite a ways and run the nuts up by hand.
Saves a lot of wrench twisting.  ( Around the 2" separation mark)
