if the timing jumped it's probably due to a bad mech.
detensioner. an indication of that should be that the
little arrow on the detensioner is not pointing at the
appropriate mark on the body. typically, though, the
timing jumps under transient conditions - i.e. on shut
down when the springs on one cam can draw slack into
the system - and not under constant load. you should
definitely verify that the engine turns smoothly by
hand.

the only time my milano shut down at highway speed was
when i accidently bumped the keys in the ignition. i
coasted over and started right back up. if the engine
cranks, though, that at least means the 3rd position
of the switch is good (and it ought to run until key
released to 2nd)

pop the air cleaner off and with the key at "on"
(2nd), push open the AFM door. you should hear fuel
run, and that'll tell you if your relay block is good
and fuel pump is going.
