Door ajar dinging

Greetings,
   My 1988 Alfa Spider appears to have stopped sensing when the door 
has closed.  Whenever the key is in the ignition, it tends to ding 
repeatedly when the door is obviously securely closed.  Sometimes 
repeatedly closing the driver's side door will get it to stop for 
awhile, but it tends to come back.  Where is the sensor for this 
detector?  What is likely to be wrong with it?
