105 brake rebuild
Anthony White is concerned with brake pedal play in his 105's floor
mounted pedals. He's considering installing 2 psi residual pressure
valves in the brake lines. Mark Battley, in essence, suggests he
rebuilds the entire system, as required, before considering any
modifications.

I agree with Mark. There is adjustment on the brake to pedal rod and it
might be as simple as that. If as Mark suggests the brake 'feel' is
spongy, then obviously there is air in the system which needs to be
resolved first.
I have a client's 105.62 Spider ('69 US Round-Tail) in the shop with a
very firm brake pedal with only slight play - as it should have. To
digress a moment, it came into the shop without any boosters. It should
have two - one for front and one for back as it has a dual underfloor
MC. I drove it on the freeway and while I was never remotely in any kind
of panic stop situation, it stopped smoothly, and with only slightly
increased pedal pressure. I will be installing dual boosters, primarily
for originality sake. Way off the subject, but if I was racing one, I'd
pull the boosters and reroute the brake lines as was done on this car.
Having done only one 101's brakes, I did find it was difficult to get a
firm brake pedal at first. However, there are a total of six wheel
cylinders (in addition to the MC) and along with drum brakes, everything
has to be just about perfect. I do believe a fellow with a 101 or 750
did install a residual pressure valve and was happy with the results.
But to repeat, make sure everything is 'spot on' first - then decide.
