Re: Coolant Bypass Hose Restrictor AWOL

Hi Tom:

I was surprised to find one of these mysterious parts in the bypass hose on my '87 Bosch Spider last week, but as an aside, I thought the general consensus (Digest- and otherwise) was that it's not a critical piece. I've had Spiders with the restrictor, without it, with it installed backwards, and I've never seen any difference. They do pop up on eBay from time to time, and often get no bids. The i Saluti site has some details of how it's supposed to work:

One of the authors threatens an overheat condition without the restrictor, but if that were truly the case, I think we'd all be seeing an awful lot of steaming Alfa's at club events.

Subject: Coolant Bypass Hose Restrictor AWOL

I have found that the coolant bypass hose restrictor is missing from my 77
Alfetta GT (2L USA car - actually a 2L CA car). Queries to both local Alfa
dealers about obtaining a new one has resulted in my being laughed at. Once
maniacally.

This subject comes up regularly on the AD and the general consensus is "Yes,
it's important, don't lose your old one." but we never hear how to replace the
one that the PO (or the as-yet-unenlighted current owner) lost already.

Any ideas where to locate one in good useable condition? Got one laying
around in a parts pile somewhere that you'd be interested in parting with (no pun
intended)?

Reply off-digest, if desired.

TIA
