Re:164 seat switches
These usually respond to a liberal spraying with electrical contact
cleaner. I've used Radio Shack's tape and head cleaner successfully.
Also, easier than mucking around with direct power, is simply swapping the
appropriate switch from the passenger seat. If you only need to adjust the
seat once (one driver?) then adjust the seat, return the switch to the
passenger side and leave the fore and aft switch on the driver's side
unplugged.
To do a proper job of spraying contact cleaner into the switch it's best to
carefully disassemble it. The switch actuator button is just plastic with
two nubs on the sides that key into holes in the switch body. A little
careful prying of the sides of the switch body gets the button off. Then
the comical little plastic dust guard (totally ineffective I'd say) just
peels back, spray until a bit of cleaner drips out the bottom, re stick the
plastic sheet and snap the button back in.
To remove the seat switches is also easy. One screw in the side of the seat
molding the switches are mounted in and two on the end of the seat rail
accessed from the rear footwell area. Lift and then pop the switches out
from underneath after unplugging the connectors.
