Re: Alternator sources
Hi Rob:
Try this place:
http://autoexpress.safeshopper.com/196/cat196.htm?506
$83, including the core charge and a 3-year warranty.
There is something else you might want to also check, though. On my '87
there is a power junction on the left inner fender, near the air
cleaner. It connects the output from the alternator to three other wires
that branch off to the starter and fuse box. Mine was fairly corroded, and
was limiting both current and voltage supply to the car. If your '90 has
something similar, check that first, clean it, and maybe re-terminate all
the wires. It netted me almost a full extra volt, and I'm finally
satisfied with the operation of my power windows.

Subject: Alternator sources
I had the alternator on my 90 Spider tested today while it was still on
the car. Under load it produced 13.6 volts but only 40 amps. It is a 65
amp alternator. The mechanic suggested I bring it in to be bench tested
to make sure it is the alternator that is bad and not some of the wiring
in the car. With the very hot weather lately I have been running the A/C
and this has been draining the battery. Anyhow, IAP wants $228 for a
remanufactured Bosch alternator. I was wondering if anyone has a source
or suggestions on a less expensive alternator? Would one from another
vehicle make work?
Thanks,
rob murphy
