My father taught that trick to me years ago, but it didn't have anything
to do with EFI engines. It was just something you did if you think you
flooded the engine. Put the accelerator on the floor while you cranked.
This has worked for me on carbs and EFI engines (and yes, I did it to my
SPICA spider when I flooded it too).
