Re: Milano muffler blues, rubbing against driveshaft
hi derek,
i have an ansa muffler on my milano. it fits, but i
did have trouble with it hitting the halfshaft for a
while.
when i reinstall my exhaust (it comes out quite
frequently:) i connect (or rather, never disconnect)
the middle muffler from the cat section. then i fit
the cat up to the downpipes (this is where you might
want to start - i.e. by first loosening the exhaust at
the downpipes). then i slip the rear muffler over the
midsection, but do not tighten the clamp. then i
install the mid section donut hangers, and laying
under the exhaust i wrestle it into position so that
the end of the mid section is hitting the dedion
crossmember and the exhaust points as far to the
passenger side as i can get it (i.e. moving mid-rear
junction away from the halfshaft). then i tighten the
nuts at the downpipe junction, and then postion and
bolt up the rear muffler. sometimes, the mid section
pipe ends up too close to the cross member and will
rattle against it. it's obnoxious, but i don't do
anything about it because it invariably settles down
away from the subframe.
BTW, if you have problems - once installed - with the
half shaft hitting the pipe when going over big bumps,
you may need to replace your rear shock absorbers.
good luck,
